Fiduciary status & fees

Clear, conflict-free pricing and a fiduciary standard that prioritizes client interests.

Is Atlas Capital Advisors a fiduciary?

Yes. Atlas Capital Advisors is a fiduciary at all times.

As a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, we are legally obligated to act in your best interests — not our own.

This is a meaningful distinction. Many financial professionals — including brokers and insurance agents — are only held to a "suitability" standard, meaning they can recommend products that are suitable for you even if better or less expensive alternatives exist. As a fiduciary, we are held to a higher legal standard: we must always put your interests first

Is Atlas Capital Advisors fee-only?

Yes. Atlas Capital Advisors is a fee-only firm, which means we are compensated solely by our clients.

We do not earn commissions, referral fees, 12b-1 fees, or any other compensation from third parties such as mutual fund companies, insurance carriers, or broker-dealers.

This eliminates the most common conflicts of interest in financial advice and ensures that every recommendation we make is driven entirely by what we believe is in your best interest

How does Atlas Capital Advisors charge for its services?

We charge an advisory fee based on a percentage of assets under management (AUM).

Our fee schedules are detailed in our Form ADV and Form CRS, which are publicly available on our website and through the SEC's IAPD database.

Because Atlas invests directly in individual securities on your behalf — rather than placing your assets in outside mutual funds managed by others — we eliminate additional fund-level expense ratios that many advisors pass on to clients. The result is a lower total cost of ownership.

What is the minimum investment to work with Atlas Capital Advisors?

Atlas Capital Advisors generally works with clients who have $1 million or more in investable assets.

Minimums may vary depending on the services you require. We encourage you to contact us to discuss your specific situation — we're happy to have a conversation before you make any decisions.

Investment approach

A disciplined, evidence-based strategy built on direct indexing, factor investing and long-term research.

What is Atlas Capital Advisors' investment philosophy?

Our philosophy is grounded in academic research and evidence — not prediction, intuition, or market timing.

We believe that persistent investment returns are driven by well-documented factors such as value and momentum, and that disciplined, systematic application of these factors can generate outperformance over time.

We apply this through what we call "enhanced indexing" strategies — broadly diversified portfolios that go beyond a standard market-cap-weighted index by incorporating factor tilts, direct indexing, and tax-loss harvesting, all at low cost.

How is Atlas different from just buying an index fund?

Atlas goes beyond standard index funds by combining direct indexing, factor tilts and portfolio customization.

A standard index fund simply mirrors a market-cap-weighted benchmark like the S&P 500 or MSCI World. You get the market return — no more, no less. Atlas goes further in several ways:

Factor tilts: We systematically overweight markets, sectors, and stocks with favorable characteristics (such as value and momentum) to target outperformance over the index over time.

Direct indexing: We own individual securities in your account, enabling customization and ongoing tax-loss harvesting that a fund structure cannot provide.

Personalization: We tailor the portfolio to your tax situation, existing holdings, risk tolerance, concentrated positions, and values — none of which a standard index fund can accommodate.

Does Atlas Capital Advisors use outside mutual funds or ETFs?

Our preference is to invest directly in individual securities through separately managed accounts, which eliminates the fund-level management fees charged by outside managers and gives us greater control over tax management and portfolio customization.

In some cases, low-cost ETFs may be used for specific asset classes where direct implementation is less practical, but the core of our equity strategy is implemented through individual securities held directly in your account.

What is direct indexing, and do you offer it?

Direct indexing means owning the individual stocks that make up an index directly in your brokerage account — rather than through a fund that bundles them together.

This gives you several advantages a fund cannot offer: the ability to exclude specific companies (for tax, ESG, or concentration reasons), apply factor tilts at the stock level, use market weight caps, and harvest tax losses on individual positions throughout the year.

Yes, Atlas offers direct indexing and uses it as a core component of our equity implementation. We consider it one of the most powerful tools available to high-net-worth investors, and we have been implementing it in-house for our clients for over 20 years.

Do you use alternative investments or hedge funds?

Typically, no. We deliberately avoid illiquid alternative investments and active management strategies such as hedge funds, private equity, and venture capital funds.

The evidence increasingly shows that the high costs, illiquidity, and complexity of these strategies do not lead to better net returns for most investors.

For clients with existing alternative fund positions, we provide advising support and incorporate those holdings into the overall portfolio strategy — but our own recommendations focus on low-cost, liquid, transparent implementations of investment risk.

Can you align my portfolio with my values (ESG, exclusions)?

Yes. Because we use direct indexing and separately managed accounts, we can customize your portfolio to reflect your values.

This includes excluding companies in specific industries (e.g., tobacco, weapons, fossil fuels), overweighting companies that rank favorably by your criteria, or constructing exclusion lists based on your own preferences. This level of customization is not possible with standard index funds or ETFs.

Services

Specialized services designed to manage complexity, risk, and long-term financial outcomes.

Can Atlas Capital Advisors help manage a concentrated stock position?

Yes. Concentrated position management is a core service at Atlas.

We work with clients who have substantial wealth tied up in a single stock — including corporate executives holding company stock and options, individuals with low-cost-basis legacy positions, and those with large holdings in private investment partnerships.

We develop a tax-aware, risk-conscious plan for gradually diversifying the concentrated position over time, while simultaneously managing the rest of the portfolio in a way that best complements the existing exposure.

What is an Outsourced CIO (OCIO), and do you offer it?

An Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) arrangement means an outside investment firm takes on full responsibility for an organization's investment program — managing asset allocation, strategy implementation, manager selection, risk oversight, and reporting — so the board or staff can focus on mission rather than portfolio management.

Atlas offers OCIO services specifically to foundations and endowments. Our team brings direct, hands-on CIO experience from institutions including The Walt Disney Company, Hewlett-Packard, and Stanford Management Company. We apply the same evidence-based, low-cost approach we use for individuals: factor-tilted, directly indexed portfolios with a strong emphasis on intelligent asset allocation and cost control.

How does Atlas Capital Advisors help me plan for retirement?

We use portfolio simulation to estimate the probability of retirement success.

Retirement planning at Atlas starts with a question most people haven't been asked precisely enough: not just "when do you want to retire?" but "given where you are today, what is the realistic probability that you can retire when and how you want — and not outlive your money?"

To answer that, we use portfolio simulation. Rather than assuming a fixed rate of return, we model thousands of possible market scenarios against your specific plan — your savings, your expected income and expenses, and when you plan to start drawing down your portfolio. This gives you a probability of success and a much more honest picture than a straight-line projection.

Because we can incorporate custom cash flows, the simulation reflects your actual life: a pension that starts at 65, Social Security at 70, a planned home purchase, or a period of part-time work before full retirement. The goal is a plan you can make real decisions from — how much to save, how aggressively to invest, and how much you can spend in retirement.

Do you coordinate with my accountant or attorney?

Yes. We consider collaboration with your existing legal and tax professionals to be an important part of serving you well.

We regularly coordinate with CPAs, estate attorneys, and other advisors to ensure that your investment strategy is aligned with your overall financial and legal plan. We do not provide legal or tax advice directly, but we work closely with those who do.
